Minutes for April Meeting


Town & Country Quilters’ Guild
Meeting Minutes
April 8, 2015
Present: 30 members and one guest, Jane M
Minutes of March Meeting:  accepted as read.
Correspondence and News: nothing to record.
Library: two new magazines, Quilters’ Connection and Canadian Quilter
Old Business:
·         Bookcase – carpenter is busy, and may have an opening by September
·         By-Laws – Linda L and Kate M are bringing these up to date to include such items as: Membership fee - rather than being explicitly indicated in the By-Laws, and amended each year, will be designated on the Registration Form. As well, e-mail addresses will be recorded on the Registration Form to formulate a roster. Committees will be clarified and will reflect what is currently deemed most useful and representative of the Guild. The Fiscal Year will be changed to June 1st to the end of May.
·         Centreville Quilt Show – will be on May 8-9th.  Sharon M will be the pretty face in charge.
Program: Cathy B indicated the last workshop with Kate M on Embellishments was a huge success.
·         Faye B will do a hand quilting demonstration on April 25th, while members will who are familiar with hand quilting will work on the Quilt of Valour in one hour allotments. Ruth B originally scheduled for this time will do a paper piecing workshop in September.
·         May program will be a Trunk Show by Susan Tillsey Manley, so be sure to attend on May 13th.
Show &Tell :
·         Elizabeth B: a receiving blanket quilt as you go, a strippy quilt with 16” squares, 2 charity quilts
·         Laurie Ann C: 2 small quilts doll size
·         Ruth P : a row quilt, with rows of different fabrics
·         Joann T:  quilted jacket, black and white quilt, Wildlife quilt, and block of month  Bird house
·         Leah M:  disappearing nine-patch, and Santa Claus quilt
·         Rosemary F  quilt with black/primary colour blocks for grandson
·         Marie A  Something to Crow About completed wall hanging from retreat W/S
·         Sharon M: queen black and beige floral for daughter, another for grandson
·         Ann M: bargello, 3 years in making, turquoise and rust
·         Dawna D- wall hanging from Ann Buzzalino W/S with swirls of gold and fushia, another  with small tree, stamping and painting
·         Kate M: samples from embellishments W/S, embroidery resource of stitches each on 5x7 pieces of fabric, including samples from Cinda K. Kate also gave away a book on Paper Piecing – winner Corrine R
·         Darlene R: queen with beautiful carnations
·         Barbara L – quilt top  for grandson in blue
Guest speaker – Jane M spoke about Quilting Hacks, innovative solutions to a quilting problem, not necessarily with a quilting tool. Some examples:
·         Glue stick to hold down applique until sewn in place
·         Toilet paper rolls to wind binding
·         Dry eraser pen on doc. protectors to check off pieces cut of pattern or preview different free-motion patterns
·         Colour choices for quilts using paint chip combinations
·         Pool noodles to wrap seasonal wall hangings
·         Lettuce holder bins for scraps
·         Tin snips for cutting rag quilt edges
·         Masking tape to reduce slippage of rulers, and so many more creative solutions
